Last month I was shocked to see how high the Internet portion of my post pay office mobile phone bill was.
Then I realized I had forgotten to buy an Internet bundle. For the whole month I had been paying the out of bundle rate of KES 8 per megabyte (MB) instead of a rate of less than KES 1 per MB, depending on the bundle purchased.
Yes! You can buy bundles for a post pay Internet services on a mobile phone and it will save you lots of cash.
Like a good telecommunications company Safaricom punishes the ignorant by charging a significantly higher rate for the default option and making it difficult to find information on how to pay less.
The Safaricom website has the post pay bundle rates but they do not explain how to purchase them. I had to send several emails and call a customer agent to find out how to buy the bundles for a post pay account.
This is how you do it;
Dial *200#
Select option 3: Account Management
Select option 1: Internet & Bundle Subscriptions
Select option 3: Data Bundles
Select option 1: For this number
Select the bundle size you want to purchase.
You pay less per MB if you buy the bigger bundles; KES 0.65 per MB for option 5 for 3GB and KES 2 per MB for Option 1 of 50MB.
Select option 1 to confirm you want to purchase the selected bundle.
After that you want to purchase the data bundle, you will receive an SMS confirmation of the transaction from Safaricom.
Please make note of the date you make the transaction so that in 30 days, or 90 days if you purchased 20GB or more, you make another purchase to enable you rollover unused data.

I'm in postpaid plan but wondering why I can't buy data bundles simply because I'm on postpaid
ReplyDeleteYou should be able to buy data bundles on postpaid each month, I use the mySafaricom app. Contact Safaricom and ask them to assist you.
