Kaspersky Internet Security

Preferred Internet security suite
Kaspersky is my preferred Internet security suite.  It keeps my computers safe from the nasty bad guys on the Internet; viruses, trojans, spam, hackers etc.

On a trip to Uganda early last year from the USA, against my better judgement, I transferred documents from the thumb drive of a colleague into my laptop. In came the documents plus viruses. The McAfee security suite that I was using on the office laptop did not prevent this intrusion.

I also infected my external hard drive when I connected it to the office laptop. When I tried connecting the external hard drive to my home laptop the Kaspersky Internet suite identified the virus and saved me lots of pain. The office laptop had to be reformatted to remove the viruses.

This episode reaffirmed my faith in the Kaspersky Lab products.

Newbies from Eastern Europe
Kaspersky Lab is a relatively young company founded in 1997, by Eugene Kaspersky, and is based in Moscow, Russia.

I remember when I first mentioned the Kaspersky anti-virus software to my sister, a computer engineer in the USA, she expressed her doubts about it. Interestingly the company she works for also used McAfee Internet security products.

Kaspersky affordable and widely available; online, Walmart, Nakumatt
When I purchased my beloved second-hand Dell Latitude D610 in the USA in March 2009, I purchased a single user one year Kaspersky Internet Security license to keep it safe. When it expired, a year later, I purchased the 2010 version on a CD in Walmart.

Just last week, I purchased the Kaspersky Internet Suite 2012 online, at a cost of USD $59.95 (KES 5,395.50), for a netbook at the office in Nairobi.

Buying it in Nakumatt, or any other shop here in Nairobi, would have cost much less, KES 2,500 for the 2011 Internet Security 3 user license. But the netbook did not have a CD drive and I was hooked by the free 30-day trial version I had downloaded.

F1 Sponsors for Ferrari

This morning I was stunned to see a placement advertisement of Kaspersky Lab in a Formula One Ferrari interview.

I did not know Kaspersky Lab has been a sponsor of the Formula One Scuderia Ferrari team since November 2010.

This would suggest Kaspersky Labs are aiming to be really big in the technology sector.
