This seems to be happening quietly as I am not aware there has been an official launch or any advertisement other than the Google Africa blog announcement in August; welcoming Android One to Africa.
Key features are;
- A beautiful 5 inch HD screen; resolution is 1280 x 720;
- 8MP back camera and 2MP front camera;
- 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor;
- 1 GB RAM, 16GB storage (internal) with the option of adding a micro SD for external storage;
- Dual SIM (micro);
- FM Radio;
- 2,200 mAh battery;
- 3G, WiFi (and hotspot), Bluetooth, micro USB
- Pure Android 5.1.1 (lollipop) sans the Carlcare and Jumia apps.
In comparison with the Google Nexus 5 (2013) the Infinix Hot2 Android One has a Messenger app rather than Hangouts.
It does not however have the option of working on a 4G network.
I think the price of KES 8999 (USD $84) is amazing in comparison to;
- the 2.8 inch Android 2.2, IDEOS UX that retailed for KES 8,000 in Sep 2010;
- the 3.5 inch Android 4.0.4, Intel Yolo BT 210 Phone that sold for KES 10,990 in Feb 2013.
