The Solar Lantern S2 by d.light solar is brilliantly designed. It is minimalist with the panel, light and battery neatly condensed into a disc shaped unit. The main unit has a diameter is 3.8"; the solar panel is 2" by 2". It has a metallic holder that allows the light to swivel. The unit weighs 150g.
The d.light solar lantern S2 has an LED light so it is bright enough to read with. And d.light solar say when fully charged it can be used for 4 hours.
My goal when I started using solar lights in February 2011 was to eliminate the need for candles, during electricity outages, with low budget solar products. I still have not accomplished that goal but the S2 lanterns, yes I rushed back to Nakumatt to buy another (for KES 1,085), brings me closer to my goal.
