Following the 2010 World Cup from America

What a great World Cup!

What an irony that I am living in the USA when the World Cup is first hosted in Africa. I have been following the World Cup since 1978 when Argentina won at home. I did at least get to watch the opening match in Nairobi at a friend’s house.

My highlights of the 2010 World Cup;

South Africa were great hosts, proving that Africa can do a great job! Yes We Can!

First time winner Spain (aka La Roja)!

All 64 games were shown live in the USA on either ESPN or ABC. So much for those who think the USA is not that into soccer, ooops I mean football.

I watched many games on espn3.com using an AT&T Internet connection. This was a first for me, watching a live game on my computer. The quality was good, a bit choppy at times. It however still pales in comparison to watching it on TV.

It was fantastic following the #World Cup on Twitter. These were the key people I followed to get news and updates on the World Cup FIFA, Sepp Blatter, Pearcesport, bbc_vladimir, BBCdanielgallas, fsctv, and championsonfox.

The FIFA website was fantastic; great previews, news, analysis, statistics, videos and a very good match center with live text. The BBC World Cup 2010 was also outstanding; there is a blog post on the massive data on the BBC website and how this worked.

A co-worker invited me to join a Fantasy Football league which proved to be great fun.

Last but not least the adverts and the music concert were lots of fun. The song of the World Cup for me was Wavin' Flag by K'naan!
