Website Review – Majibu.com

Good
  • The great thing about the majibu.com website is that it provides a forum for Internet users in Kenya (and Africa) to answer questions from their peers, foster a culture of solving 'our own problems' and develops a local knowledge database.
  • Very fascinating to see the questions that people are asking. I assumed that the number one topic would be relationships and that's somewhat true. But as I delved deeper into the site I was very impressed with the questions; about linking Blogger to FB, Google Analytics and 'How do you add Google Adsense ads to your Youtube video page?' Not that relationships are not important but the questions show the issues that visitors to this website are wrestling with.
  • Linkage with FaceBook is good because it makes the majibu.com website more personalized and authentic. The website has 135 fans.

Bad
  • Mismatch between the number of times 'question' features in comparison to 'answer' on the homepage. The name of the website is majibu not maswali so I would expect visitors to have an opportunity to ask questions but the website be arranged to serve up answers to these questions.
  • The advantage of a website where the people that ask and answer questions are anonymous is that people are more likely to be honest and ask personal questions that they would otherwise not speak about. That said the website would be more credible if it was personalized. At the very least the website owners should offer information about themselves e.g. bio.
  • I signed up as a user to the website and used a non-existent email address and this was not noticed. No need to request an email address unless you will verify this by sending an email to person trying to sign up.

Ugly
  • No correlation between some of the topics and the categories the questions appear. The question on free web hosting appears in the motorcycle category at Home » Cars & Transportation » Motorcycles » Question. The moderators (administrators) of the website should move the questions to the correct categories if the users make a mistake.
  • There are links at the bottom left hand section of the page, from the template I assume, that have not been customized. This should be done or they should be deleted; About Us, Contact Us, Advertising, Terms of Use, and Privacy Policy.

  1. Nice review. Detailed product reviews like these will be useful for our online content industry. I agree with the problem of misplaced items in the category list. I got to understand the problem when I logged on to post a question on gardenning and almost gave up on the finding the category - only to find it down the very long list. Nevertheless, majibu.com is an interesting way forward
