I confess that I have been ignorantly thinking that the success of M-PESA can be attributed to some Kenyan(s) or the nation of Kenya.
The article by Olga Morawczynski 'What you don’t know about M-PESA' on how the service was developed and launched as a viable product has put to shame my vain nationalistic thinking.
It however also raises some questions. If M-PESA was solely designed and developed by Vodafone; which is the largest shareholder of Safaricom. It theoretically could have been tested and launched in any of the countries that Vodaphone or its subsidiaries operate in. Why Kenya? What were the critical factors that Vodafone considered that made it such a success?
